“A hip-hop Blazing Saddles with Paul Barman as Cleavon Little and Prince Paul as Gene Wilder.” — Rolling Stone
MC Paul Barman tries to be sensitive about race, but the ivy league/suburban rap shtick makes that impossible. His first narrative, “Enter Pan-man,” a song about a flailing Evergreen graduate who gets horn and hoof implants to become a club star and disappointment to his dad caught the ear of Prince Paul in 1998. They got together and put out the sex-heavy and intensely lyrical “It’s Very Simulating” EP on WordSound Records in early 2000 which flies out of the stores. His gigging schedule is underway, supporting acts like Kool Keith and Del the Funkee Homosapien.
Jay-Z defined the four elements of rapping as N.O.D.S., a song any successful rap tune should produce. N. for Narrative is one of Barman’s strong points. “I’m Fricking Awesome” (from “It’s Very Stimulating”) is from the viewpoint of an intelligent young woman named Autumn on the prowl roaming Manhattan’s upper-middle class townhouses and art museums. O. is for Originality. Whether or not Paul is original can be gauged by watching first-time listeners freak out when they hear his songs. D. is for Delivery. Paul’s is okay. He gets away with murder when people say his strain to stay on beat is simply another manifestation of the nerd persona. Lastly, S. is style. Paul has none. To say, “well, an anti-style is still a style,” is a cop-out.
Paul’s new 12" “How Hard Is That?” will be out July 11, with BM Spawn — er, PM Dawn — providing the beats. Lyrics available on request. There will be a new 12" in September, along with a CDEP compiling them both, along with some new material. Also check out www.mcpaulbarman.com for innumerable treats.

The only thing Elitte Bartending School takes more seriously than pouring beer and mixing drinks is having fun while doing it. The company offers classes ranging from the basics of mixed drinks and beers to extreme flair bartending. Classes at Elitte Bartending School are held in English and Spanish, and run through every aspect of running a bar, either in your home or professionally. The school is co-owned by a pair of state-licensed teachers and approved through the Illinois Board of Education. The teachers, all experienced barkeeps, can provide real-world insight into drink slinging and can help each student hone their resume and job-hunting techniques. The 40-hour program grants a career-boosting Basset certification that will show bar owners you're a pro. During the flair class, students learn to flip bottles and perform tricks for that extra tip, the school helps improve mixing and pouring speed.

Bartending 101

I have decided to post this as a service to those thinking about becoming bartenders or those that would just like to make more money. This post is the result of an experience I had today with a SERVER at Uno Chicago Grill in Daytona Beach. Mrs. Tiki & I went there for lunch while on a shopping day. Our bill game to $42. Now being "in the business", I tip 20% minimum unless the service is just horrendous. I usually top 25%-30%. In this case I was planning on leaving a $10 tip (24%). In my wallet I had nothing smaller than a $20, so I gave the server a $70 and asked for change. Obviously not a seasoned food & beverage person, she brought me back my original $20, a $5, and 3 singles. So she got an $8 tip.
19% is not a bad tip, but she cost herself $3 on my table. If she does that 15 times in a shift she is costing herself about $180 per week assuming a 4 shift per week schedule. That extrapolates out to $780 per month or almost $10,000 per year.
So if you are a server or a bartender, think about that the next time you make change.

Have you ever looked around a nice bar, curiously envying the happy bartenders having a great time while raking in gobs of money?  Did you wonder how they learned the skills necessary to pour drinks so quickly, remember all those recipes, and keep their cool all at the same time?   How did they get there?  Could I learn to do that?
Bartending in Milwaukee, Wisconsin can be a tough world to break into.  Corner bars with on-the-job training are few and far between. Milwaukee and Madison customers are more educated and sophisticated than ever before.  They come from all over the world, they know about wine, they enjoy the scene and they have become more demanding.
Wisconsin customers are looking for a bartender who is as knowledgeable, as personable, and as demanding as they are.  In this more professional bartending environment-if you’re not fast, organized, and efficient you surely won’t last very long in an upscale bar.
Not surprisingly, bartenders who want to excel will attend a professional bartending school to facilitate their entry into this lucrative profession.  Without the professional bartending training that is all but required by popular bars, clubs and restaurants these days, you won’t stand a chance of beating out those that have it.
The Bartending Academy of Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin has created bartending programs to answer the demand for professionally trained bartenders.  We provide the bartending education, the speed, the organizational skills as well as customer service and alcohol awareness at our bartending school. Then we will follow up your training with our job placement assistance program that is available to all of our Milwaukee and Madison graduates.
Take the time to check out all of our pages and then TAKE THE NEXT STEP! Request more information on our Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin bartending school locations or call us today and we will show you how we can help you get started in your new bartending career in Milwaukee market!

Those needing certification to sell alcoholic beverages can takes courses for TABC certification online in order to lawfully work in that industry. If the establishment in which they work also provides ready to eat food, they can also obtain their food handlers permit online as well. Understand that the certification from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is not necessarily the same as a Texas Liquor License, but those providing sales for on-premises consumption will need to be certified to comply with Texas state law. Establishments selling alcoholic beverages, such as bars and other retailers are required to have a Texas Liquor License for the establishment and the persons working in the establishment may be required to complete a course on how to legally sell alcoholic beverages. After completing an accredited class, they can take the test for TABC certification online and instantly print out their certification instead of waiting to receive it in the mail. Classes are also available at many locations throughout the state, but many appreciate the convenience of the availability of the TABC certification online. It is important to remember that there is a difference between a Texas Liquor License and TABC certification and which one is required can be answered by the TABC. However, an individual managing a food service business will be required to provide certification that they have completed safe food service classes either online or have received their food handlers permit online and have the certificate available for inspection at the place of business. Not every employee working in a food service business may be required to have a state permit for handling food, but the certification is required for the food service manager. Some counties and cities do require each person handling food to have a permit and they can earn it by taking a test for a food handlers permit online. This can be determined by checking with the county health department. In many areas servers are allowed to work without the permit, provided the certified food service manager has properly trained them in the safe handling of food.
